About

Guard Source HQ exists for one reason: choosing and setting up home security gear is more confusing than it should be, and most of the advice out there is either thinly disguised sales copy or written by people who have never actually run a cable or configured an NVR.

We’re a small team of home security and networking enthusiasts who do the unglamorous work ourselves – mounting cameras, troubleshooting PoE switches, wrestling with NVR firmware, and figuring out which gear actually holds up over time. Everything we publish comes from that hands-on perspective, written for homeowners and enthusiasts who want to understand what they’re buying before they spend the money.

What We Cover

Our focus is practical, homeowner-level home security: IP cameras, NVRs, PoE setups, access control, and the storage and networking gear that ties it all together. We write two kinds of content, and we keep them honest about which is which.

The first is troubleshooting and how-to guides – the kind of articles you find when something isn’t working and you need a clear answer fast. These have no products to sell. They exist to actually solve your problem.

The second is buying guides and reviews, where we compare gear and recommend specific products. When we link to something you can buy, we say so plainly (see our Affiliate Disclosure), and our recommendations are based on what we’d actually set up in our own homes – not on which company pays the most.

How We Approach Recommendations

We don’t believe in the “best of everything” approach where every product gets a glowing review. Home security gear involves real tradeoffs – price against features, simplicity against flexibility, brand ecosystems against open standards. Our job is to explain those tradeoffs in plain language so you can make the call that fits your situation, not ours.

If a popular product has a real weakness, we’ll tell you. If a cheaper option does the job for most people, we’ll say that too. The goal is for you to leave a page knowing more than you did, whether or not you buy anything.

Why Trust Us

We’re independent. We’re not owned by a manufacturer, and we’re not a storefront. We make money through affiliate commissions when readers buy gear through our links, which costs you nothing extra and never changes what we recommend. That model only works long-term if the advice is genuinely good – so being right matters more to us than making a quick sale.
